Pez Limericks | top of page

Ah yes, the limerick! This is a classic Irish poetry form known around the world. Here on the pages of Pezhead Monthly, there have been many limericks. In fact, there is an entire archive page where they can all be read! Check it out here.

I also did a live reading of a few of these limericks at Pezamania 19 in 2009. Check it out!

Here are a few of my favorite Pez limericks.

Nero

There once was a Pezhead named Nero
Who enjoyed the work of Deniro
"You talking to me?"
Quite often said he,
As he flipped back a Pez superhero.

Al

There once was a Pezhead named Al
Who happened upon a yard sale.
When he saw that shoebox,
He shouted “This rocks!”
And went home with vintage Pez Pals.

Michael

There once was a Pezhead named Michael
Who rode on a red motorcycle.
Though he didn't pop wheelies,
He popped Pez quite freely,
His revvin' and Pezzin', delightful.

Madonna

There once was a Pezhead, Madonna,
Whose collection was pure Pez nirvana.
When asked if she ever
Would quit Pez forever,
She answered "I never will wanna."

SONGS

Notre Dame Pez Victory March
To the tune of the Notre Dame Victory March
Copyright 2007 JoePez Publications

Cheer Cheer for Notre Dame Pez
Tilt back its head and watch it dispense
Fruity goodness nice and quick,
All in the shape of a candy brick.
What though the crowd be great or small,
Notre Dame Pez will dispense for all,
While the loyal Pezheads will be
Putting it on the shelf.

The Limited Leprechaun
Copyright 2021 JoePez Publications
(Editor's note- this is an original song written by Joe Durrant. A video is available on YouTube.)

Well Joey got the notice
And went to Pez Dot Com
'Twas there his eyes did gaze upon
The limited leprechaun
Dressed in green from hat to feet
With a smile as big as the bay
And upon its stem a shamrock
And the words "St. Patrick's Day"

Ho hey, what do ya say?
Grab 'im before he's gone
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun
Ho hey, what do ya say?
Sure as the risin' sun
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun

Now Joey knew just what to do,
He listened to his heart
He clicked that button right away
And added it to cart
And then just out of habit,
Another time clicked he
For one to keep upon the card
And one to be set free

Ho hey, what do ya say?
Grab 'im before he's gone
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun
Ho hey, what do ya say?
Sure as the risin' sun
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun

The leprechaun was there and gone,
But Joey made his score
And just a few days later
A box was at his door
He opened it so gleefully
And got a big surprise
Yes, he had to do a double take
For he didn't trust his eyes

Ho hey, what do ya say?
Grab 'im before he's gone
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun
Ho hey, what do ya say?
Sure as the risin' sun
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun

The first one that he did unwrap
Looked as he did expect
But there was something off about
The one he unwrapped next
No shamrock or St Patrick's Day
Was found upon that stem
And Joey sat and wondered
What stars shined down on him

Ho hey, what do ya say?
Grab 'im before he's gone
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun
Ho hey, what do ya say?
Sure as the risin' sun
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun

Now Joey had to face the news,
He took it pretty hard
That these two Pez would always be
Still inside their cards
A single tear ran down his cheek
That balmy Saturday
But what a tale he has to tell
About his Pez display

Ho hey, what do ya say?
Grab 'im before he's gone
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun
Ho hey, what do ya say?
Sure as the risin' sun
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun

Now leprechauns are tricky ones
Such games they like to play
But it can't be denied they bring
A smile to your day
So let this be a lesson
For all you girls and boys:
There's no such thing as limited
Where there is endless joy

Ho hey, what do ya say?
Grab 'im before he's gone
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun
Ho hey, what do ya say?
Sure as the risin' sun
Hey ho, what do ya know?
The limited leprechaun

Here is a Pezzified version of the poster for the movie "Leprechaun" (1993).

Here is a picture of some Irish-themed Pez dispensers in my collection: A carded first edition Leprechaun Pez and another carded first edition factory error of the same dispenser (both of which inspired the above song "The Limited Leprechaun"), the second edition Leprechaun Pez with a transluscent hat, the Lucky Charms cereal mini Leprechaun Pez dispenser, a custom-painted mini Leprechaun made by my Pez pal Topher, and last but not least the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish Football Pez dispenser.
