Happy Valentine's Day From Pezhead Monthly

Spring Loaded: A Message from the Editor | top

Hi there, and Happy February from Pezhead Monthly! I hope your year is off to a great start.

As this month’s cover image (a Pezzified take on a Men's Health magazine cover) confirms, I am now 50 years old. It’s a bit hard to reconcile this with the fact that being a Pez collector makes me feel so young at heart. But it’s all good. Much like what I did to mark the occasion of my 40th birthday, I figured what the heck, I may as well commemorate it here on the pages of Pezhead Monthly. Below is an alternate image I used on Facebook, which is a Pezzification of the “Saturday Night Live” character Sally O’Malley.

I was planning to celebrate my birthday in a big way by going to Los Angeles with my lovely wife, and perhaps find some new Pez along the way, but the wildfires out there forced a last-minute cancellation. I’m sure we’ll make it there someday, but it was not in the cards this time around. My thoughts are with everyone out there as they no doubt face a long road to recovery ahead.

However, in January I did manage to book the hotel for the Michigan Pez convention (I registered for Michigan in December), and I also registered and booked the hotel for Pezamania. It feels great to have 2 Pez conventions on the calendar! Definitely something to look forward to.

Believe it or not, this month’s issue of Pezhead Monthly kicks off Volume 20 of the publication’s run! (Pezhead Monthly is actually in year 24 of its run, but some volumes are longer than others and there have also been a few hiatuses along the way.) This issue in particular is slimmer than recent issues, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. There’s Pez Poetry, of course, and a bit more of it than in a usual issue. There also happens to be the first Pez Almost-Quote in over a year! Plus there’s also a rundown and picture of my January scores. And lastly, there’s an update to the Pezhead Monthly Valentine’s Day page.

Thanks as always for reading Pezhead Monthly. Take care and see you soon!

"Scores!" Says He: January 2025 | top

My January Pez scores were fewer in number than they’ve been in recent months, but I’m not complaining. I was still able to get some fun stuff from a variety of places.

Out in the wild, the Easter assortment is starting to show up. I was pleased to find the new Floppy Ear Bunny (with white head and pink face) as well as the new pink Sitting Bunny at Hobby Lobby. I bought an extra of the pink bunny in the event that I can trade for a brown sitting bunny, which is exclusive to Europe (for this year, anyway).

At World Market, I also found my first factory error of the year: a Curly Hair Barbie facing backwards.

From eBay, I got an awesome addition to my Batman Pez carded collection. This one is on a striped blister card, and is actually the second Japanese Batman card in my collection (it's the one on the right in the picture below). I have to wonder if there are other similar Japanese Batman cards out there?

From Pez.com, I scored some more online exclusives, as well as some non-exclusive Pez that are starting to show up in stores. The online exclusives were a continuation in the series of Presenter Girls that came out last year. These 3 new girls are Peppermint Presenter Girls, in various skin tones (light, medium, and dark). It’s nice to see Peppermint candy come back as well! In addition, I picked up the newest in the Treats set, the Avocado, which has also been spotted out in the wild in CVS Pharmacy stores here in the US. Along with the Avocado I scored the new Stitch set (Stitch, Aloha Stitch, and Angel). Rounding out my Pez.com scores were two more 2-packs: Avocado/Taco and Stitch/Angel.

And lastly, for my birthday, my lovely wife gave me some Pez boxer briefs. Despite being quite fashionable and, presumably, in my size, I think I am going to keep these in the package and display them in the vicinity of my ever growing Pez sock collection.

Here is a picture of all of my January scores. You can click on it for a larger view.

Gomez

There once was a Pezhead named Gomez
A dapper, fine fellow, oh yes
And his dear Morticia
Was all that he wished for,
Along with a house full o’ Pez.

Four Floor Antique Score
(Best read to the tune of “I Am Iron Man” by Black Sabbath)

Four floor antique store,
Who could ever ask for more?
Four floor antique store,
Will there be a big Pez score?

When I swung that door,
Had no idea what was in store.
Small town Ohio
Had a lot of stuff to show.

So much to explore,
Yeah my jaw dropped to the floor.
Stairway to the sky,
Up those steps my soul did fly

Four floor antique store,
Who could ever ask for more?
Four floor antique store,
Will there be a big Pez score?

There was stuff galore,
But not what I had come there for.
Hold on, what’s that box?
It’s got Pez, that rocks my socks!

Maybe Lion Roar?
Or a minty vintage Thor?
No, just common stuff,
Hunting Pez can be so rough!

Four floor antique store,
Walked out without new Pez scores,
Four floor antique store,
I’ll return one day for more.

Pez Haiku #186

Christmas clearance mixed
With Valentine’s and Easter:
A Pez smorgasbord.

A Dozen Red Roses

Roses are red,
Dispensers are small.
I love when they spring
And hate when they fall.

Roses need water,
Chapped lips need balm.
You're always refreshing
When on Pez dot com.

Roses are red
And pizza is cheesy.
The Pez hunt is hard,
But the spending is easy.

Roses are rosy,
Peaches are peachy.
A Pez dance of joy:
Veni, vidi, vici.

Roses are red,
SpongeBob is gold
I love you like Pez
Loves re-using molds

Roses are silent,
Cannons go boom.
It’s always a party
When in my Pez room

Roses are red
And I'm a collector
I'll trade you my Fred
For your mint Eerie Spectre

Roses in vases,
Pez upon shelves.
Both will look better
With more of themselves.

Roses are red
And sugar is sweet.
I jump for the Pez
Without any feet.

The sleeve is for candy,
The head is for flipping.
The rose is new Pez,
The thorn is the shipping.

Roses are red
And Yoda's a mentor
Let's rendezvous at
The Pez Visitor Center

A dozen red roses,
A dozen Pez bricks.
My buzz, not from sugar,
But from those endless kicks.

Happy Valentine's Day From Pezhead Monthly | top

And finally, I have one more Valentine’s Day Pez poem for you. At first glance, this brief poem seems like it would fit as a verse in the Pez poem “A Dozen Red Roses” just above in this issue. And heck yeah, it certainly could! But I actually wrote this one 4 years ago as a post in one of the Facebook Pez groups. As it turns out, it never made it into Pezhead Monthly for some reason. So I am spotlighting it here, along with the picture that gives it more context: a collection of custom Batmans on Valentine’s Day stems that I made, and that currently reside in my Batcave.

Roses are groovy
And so is De Niro.
Happy Valentine's Day
From my favorite Pez hero.

This poem and picture, the other Valentine’s Day features in this issue, and features from the archive are also available on the Pezhead Monthly Valentine’s Day page. Check it out!
