Spring Loaded: A Message from the Editor | top Hi there, and Happy February from Pezhead Monthly! I hope your year is off to a great start. As this months cover image (a Pezzified take on a Men's Health magazine cover) confirms, I am now 50 years old. Its a bit hard to reconcile this with the fact that being a Pez collector makes me feel so young at heart. But its all good. Much like what I did to mark the occasion of my 40th birthday, I figured what the heck, I may as well commemorate it here on the pages of Pezhead Monthly. Below is an alternate image I used on Facebook, which is a Pezzification of the Saturday Night Live character Sally OMalley. I was planning to celebrate my birthday in a big way by going to Los Angeles with my lovely wife, and perhaps find some new Pez along the way, but the wildfires out there forced a last-minute cancellation. Im sure well make it there someday, but it was not in the cards this time around. My thoughts are with everyone out there as they no doubt face a long road to recovery ahead. However, in January I did manage to book the hotel for the Michigan Pez convention (I registered for Michigan in December), and I also registered and booked the hotel for Pezamania. It feels great to have 2 Pez conventions on the calendar! Definitely something to look forward to. Believe it or not, this months issue of Pezhead Monthly kicks off Volume 20 of the publications run! (Pezhead Monthly is actually in year 24 of its run, but some volumes are longer than others and there have also been a few hiatuses along the way.) This issue in particular is slimmer than recent issues, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. Theres Pez Poetry, of course, and a bit more of it than in a usual issue. There also happens to be the first Pez Almost-Quote in over a year! Plus theres also a rundown and picture of my January scores. And lastly, theres an update to the Pezhead Monthly Valentines Day page. Thanks as always for reading Pezhead Monthly. Take care and see you soon! Joe Durrant P.S. Did you miss last month's issue? You can still read it here. To search the full Pezhead Monthly archives, hop on over to the archive page, where you can browse by feature, Pez Poetry Slam, or issue. There's also a Google search bar to help you search the content across the site. And hey, maybe you would like to submit some words, photos, artwork, or videos to Pezhead Monthly to be featured in an upcoming issue? That would be great! Check out the submission details here.
Out in the wild, the Easter assortment is starting to show up. I was pleased to find the new Floppy Ear Bunny (with white head and pink face) as well as the new pink Sitting Bunny at Hobby Lobby. I bought an extra of the pink bunny in the event that I can trade for a brown sitting bunny, which is exclusive to Europe (for this year, anyway). At World Market, I also found my first factory error of the year: a Curly Hair Barbie facing backwards. From eBay, I got an awesome addition to my Batman Pez carded collection. This one is on a striped blister card, and is actually the second Japanese Batman card in my collection (it's the one on the right in the picture below). I have to wonder if there are other similar Japanese Batman cards out there? From Pez.com, I scored some more online exclusives, as well as some non-exclusive Pez that are starting to show up in stores. The online exclusives were a continuation in the series of Presenter Girls that came out last year. These 3 new girls are Peppermint Presenter Girls, in various skin tones (light, medium, and dark). Its nice to see Peppermint candy come back as well! In addition, I picked up the newest in the Treats set, the Avocado, which has also been spotted out in the wild in CVS Pharmacy stores here in the US. Along with the Avocado I scored the new Stitch set (Stitch, Aloha Stitch, and Angel). Rounding out my Pez.com scores were two more 2-packs: Avocado/Taco and Stitch/Angel. And lastly, for my birthday, my lovely wife gave me some Pez boxer briefs. Despite being quite fashionable and, presumably, in my size, I think I am going to keep these in the package and display them in the vicinity of my ever growing Pez sock collection. Here is a picture
of all of my January scores. You can click on it for a larger view.

And finally, I have one more Valentines Day Pez poem for you. At first glance, this brief poem seems like it would fit as a verse in the Pez poem A Dozen Red Roses just above in this issue. And heck yeah, it certainly could! But I actually wrote this one 4 years ago as a post in one of the Facebook Pez groups. As it turns out, it never made it into Pezhead Monthly for some reason. So I am spotlighting it here, along with the picture that gives it more context: a collection of custom Batmans on Valentines Day stems that I made, and that currently reside in my Batcave.
This poem and picture, the other Valentines Day features in this issue, and features from the archive are also available on the Pezhead Monthly Valentines Day page. Check it out!
