Spring Loaded: A Message from the Editor (back to index)

Hello and Happy Holidays from Pezhead Monthly.

As the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is in full swing, I wanted to take a moment to recognize the simple wonder that is Pez. It's been a busy year for me overall, but it's always nice to find new Pez in stores (and there have been plenty this year, for sure) and to come home to a nice Pez display.

The new Christmas Pez dispensers this year are great. I am sure you have seen them if you have been in any national store like Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, etc. Note, however, that the new Penguin dispenser is only available in the special holiday tubes, and the crystal version of the new Snowman is only available at Walmart (usually in the holiday candy aisle, not near the checkout lanes where most other Pez can be found). Here is a picture of the new Christmas Pez.

In this issue of Pezhead Monthly, I provide a high-level recap of my year in Pez scores and a picture of my current main display. There's also a Pezzified version of the Christmas classic (?) "Ernest Saves Christmas" and a definitive statement on what this publication views as the best "Elf on a Shelf" ever. Lastly, I give special attention to Pezhead Monthly's Christmas page, which includes lots of Pez-related holiday frivolity from the archives.

I realize that new Pezhead Monthly content has been slim this year overall. Most recently, I had hoped to present another Pez Poetry Slam. The tentative plan will be for it to be in an issue sometime early next year. I hope to be more proficient with new content next year, but at this point I can't say for sure how much. Fortunately, there is plenty of material in the Pezhead Monthly archives for you to read through in the meantime. You can click on the "Archive" link at the bottom of this page to see it all.

Thanks as always for reading Pezhead Monthly. Have a happy and save holiday season. Enjoy your family, friends, pets, and Pez. They are truly precious. Take care and see you next year!

2013: A Year In The Life of a Pezhead (back to index)

It's been another great, Pez-packed year for me. I added about 100 new dispensers to my collection, along with some other unique items like a Pez wallet, magnets, and lots of factory errors. My current dispenser count stands at about 1350. While I won't run down all of the new Pez scores I got this year, or the adventures that accompanied some of them, I do want to point out some highlights:
  • I added the fourth of six Eerie Spectres to my collection, Zombie. Still left to get are Air Spirit and Scarewolf. I usually only get one of these bigger dispenser per year, but at next Pezamania I may not be able to hold back and may need to get the final two at once!
  • At Pezamania 23, I was able to find some Pez socks and flip flops, as well as Toad from the new Mario set, which made great anniversary gifts for my girlfriend, who coincidentally is a big fan of socks, flip flops, and Toad.
  • Finding the exclusive Sully dispenser at Best Buy, one of my favorite stores, was a real treat.
  • The biggest single collector's set of the year, The Hobbit, was a great score. Even if I am not a big fan of the Tolkien universe, I can appreciate the craftsmanship and care that went into this set. Great job, Pez!
  • Most recently, I was very pleased to pick up Volumes IV and V of the US Presidents. Hail to the 25 Chiefs (so far).
And the best part is that there is still at least one more Pez score remaining this year: next week, when I head to Western NY state to spend Christmas with my family, I know that there is a new Wegmans sushi truck with my name on it! Or at least, the name "Wegmans". And, oh yeah, Pez.

Here is a picture of the main part of my current Pez display (you can click on it for a larger view)

This picture does not include the wall of many of my cards, my curio cabinet in the front room, my Batman shelf (shown here in a recent formation), or other assorted stuff. But it does capture most of my loose Pez and collector sets, and is a pretty good indicator of just how much my collection has grown over the years. Note also that I added another full-sized bookcase to help display my collection this year. This really fills up the wall, and space is getting quite tight! But, I am sure I can fit another hundred or so in there somewhere, right...?

Anyway, here's to another great year as a Pezhead. I can't wait to see what Pez scores are to be had in 2014.

Pezhead Monthly's Christmas Page (back to index)

It's the most wonderful time of the year. And to celebrate, Pezhead Monthly presents a page with all of the Christmas goodies from this and previous issues. This page contains many Pez poems, interviews, song parodies, images, and more.

So pour yourself some egg nog, deck the halls, throw a yule log on the fire, and check out the Pezhead Monthly Christmas page right here.
