Spring Loaded: A Message from the Editor top of page | cover page

No, your eyes aren't deceiving you. This is in fact the return of Pezhead Monthly after a 6-month hiatus. What started out as a few months of off-time due to some personal matters quickly turned into an extended and severe period of writer's block and it became harder and harder to return to the newsletter, helped in no small part by a challenging new job role that promises even more hectic times in the months ahead.

This isn't to imply that I am any less of a Pezhead than I was six months ago. On the contrary, I am more a Pezhead than ever before. Tons of new dispensers have come out and for the most part I am all caught up (although as of this date, the Wal-Mart trucks continue to elude me). Some more are just on the horizon. Plus I've found two new Pez shirts and have purchased my registration and hotel room for Pezamania 16, which promises to be the best Pezamania yet. And of course you'll be able to read all about my experiences on these pages.

And now that Pezhead Monthly has returned, I am really feeling the Pez love. This month's issue includes an update on two of the big Pez arrivals of the past 6 months: The Pez MP3 player and a visit from Fred the Traveling Pez Dispenser (in addition to the interview with Fred in this month's issue, be sure to check out the slideshow of some of Fred's travels). Also included in this issue is the Pez Almost-Quote and some Pez Poetry, featuring three, count 'em three, Pez haiku.

Speaking of Pez Poetry, despite the 6-month hiatus, I still am planning on putting together a Pez Poetry Slam issue this year. I am thinking September or October will be the issue. And of course, it is never too early to submit your Pez Poetry for the big Slam, or for any future issue for that matter. Look for more details in the coming months.

So welcome back to the pages of Pezhead Monthly. I'm looking forward to resuming my monthly literary and graphic explorations of all things Pez and I hope you're looking forward to it as well. As time permits I'd like to make some updates to the layout and features of the site too, but we'll take that as it comes.

For now, though, I will simply leave you with this: See you next month!

The Pez MP3 Player Has Landed top of page | cover page

When I heard the buzz on the news and tech sites that an MP3 player in the shape of a Pez dispenser was actually going to happen, much like a Pez dispenser, I flipped. This was an outstanding idea, I thought. I quickly headed on over to PezMP3.com and, sure enough, it was on its way!

So I gathered up some money from here and there, and while it took a little while and I really had to earn that money, I finally had enough to make the big purchase.

And when it arrived, I was quite overjoyed. 512 mb, preloaded with some great indie music, and most of all it was in the shape of a Boy Pez Dispenser. Pez and music, two of my favorite things, were now as one. This was truly an occasion for a Pez Dance of Joy, or, if you will, a Pez Jam of Joy.

To further celebrate this new arrival, I put together the following little ditty. Sing along, you know you want to.

Pez MP3
To the tune of "YMCA" by The Village People
Copyright 2006 JoePez Publications

Young man, you worked hard at your job,
I said young man, your drive home was so mobbed,
But wait, young man, underneath your doorknob
Is something to make you happy.

Young man, hurry up to that door
I said young man, pick it up from the floor
You bought something just a few weeks before
And today is its arrival.

Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!
Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!

You can set aside worries and all of that crap,
Just separate that bubble wrap.

Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!
Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!

You can dig the package, you can smile and cheer,
You can dig the hip way it appears.

Young man, listen, I'll tell you what
I said young man, this case is open and shut,
Just take out your scissors and cut,
Gotta set that Pez player free…

Whoah man, now get a hold of yourself,
I said young man, keep this Pez off your shelf,
Take it with you, cause it plays MP3s,
Plug it in via USB!

Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!
Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!

You can slide out the feet, slip the battery in,
Power up your way to Pez heaven,

Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!
Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!

You just tilt the head back and you flip the switch on,
Then plug in the phones and you'll be gone…

Young man, there's some preloaded tunes,
But I know you'll be adding more soon,
Just grab up some of your own CDs,
You can rip as much as you please.

Now then, you've been such a good sport,
So plug in to the USB port,
And just rock out to your Pez MP3
It's 512 megs of sweet

Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!
Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!

From the Pez MP3 to your tender young ears,
You're gonna flip out at what you hear

Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!
Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!

You can turn it way up, you can jam all you need,
You'll have hours of fun indeed.

Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!
Looks like you finally got your Pez MP3!

Young man, you know that this thing is the bomb
It's from PezMP3.com!
