Spring
Loaded: A Message from the Editor top

Welcome
to June 2003, and to another action-packed issue of Pezhead
Monthly. You may have noticed that I have not been updating
with the new issue on the first day of the month lately.
This is because I have been unusually busy and haven't had
the time to commit to this newsletter that it deserves.
So I will now upload sometime during the first week of the
month, to take a little pressure off when the 1st comes
around and I don't have a complete issue yet. (Of course,
your contributions are always welcome, and they will help
to fill the issue quicker and get it online sooner.)
In some
personal collecting news, I thought I would be hitting the
Pez goldmine in May, because I went on a trip to Niagara
Falls, Canada. Going to college just over the border on
the American side several years ago, I would routinely make
"Pez runs" to Canada (and pick up some other stuff
along the way), because Canada had the European dispensers
instead of the US ones. It was in this way that my collection
grew quite quickly in its early days.
However,
apparently due to some recent exporting decisions by Pez,
Inc., Canada only has American Pez these days. Well, the
good news is that two sets did make it overseas: the Tweenies
set and the Jungle Book set. And I of course picked up both
sets. The bad news is they were ridiculously overpriced,
and instead of waiting for July for Pezamania 13, where
they could be found for much cheaper, I blew a lot of cash
that day. But I guess it comes with the territory of being
a Pezhead. Plus, I also picked up a Pez Spaceman Lunch Box,
so it's all good.
I'd
like to think that this issue of Pezhead Monthly is all
good, too, or at least partially good. This month, we salute
the marvelous season of summer in the feature article, "Summer
of the Pez." The summer celebration continues with
Five Questions for the Bubbleman Yummy Bubbles Pez, along
with some titillating Pez Poetry and, of, course, the Pez
Almost-Quote.
Thanks
very much for reading, and see you in July for the last
issue of Pezhead Monthly, Volume 2!

Summer
of the Pez top
of page | cover page
Now
that summer is here, young minds naturally turn to thoughts
of the season. Things like baseball games, summer movies,
and cool tunes are a way of life. And, of course, so is
Pez.
With
this in mind, Pezhead Monthly is proud to offer up a tribute
to the joy and wonder of summer, accentuated by the joy
and wonder of Pez. It's the perfect combination, really.
So sit back, slap that suntan lotion on, and bask in the
glow of Pez, summer style.
Movies
The
days of summer can be quite long, and the temperature can
get rather high. So what better way to spend your time than
in a cool movie theater? Fortunately, 2003 proves moviegoers
with plenty of options for them to spend their money on.
Take, for example, these three Pez-themed movies poised
to make a splash this season.
Pez
Reloaded
Charlie
Brown Pez plays the part of the Chosen One, a dispenser
picked above all others on the rack due to his near-perfect
packaging. However, he soon realizes that his archnemesis,
Agent Lucy Pez, may be more
than he bargained for. Will he be able to defeat her,
or will she prove superior? You'll have to see this movie
to find out.
Pirate Pez of the Caribbean
Yo
ho ho and a bottle of Pez rum! Join Pirate Pez for an
adventurous ride through the Caribbean. Who will he meet
and conquer? Who will discover his vintage goodness? If
you check this movie out, maybe it will be you.
Pezzinator
3: Rise of the Electric Pez
Just
when you thought that the traditional dispensers were the
victors in this neverending Pez war, the dangerous threat
of the electric Pez once again rears its ugly head. The
Jar Jar Binks Pez Candy Hander and the Marvin the Martian
Pez Candy Hander are determined to take over the non-motorized
dispensers, and now that they are joining forces with the
original Pez candy hander, Power Pez, there may be nothing
that can stop them.
Baseball
This
classic tune is sung at ballparks everywhere when Super
Mario Pez winds up or when Watermelon Sourz Pez hits a ball
that goes back, back, back
till it's outta here!
Take me out to the Pez Store
(To the tune of "Take me Out to the Ballgame")

Take
me out to the Pez store,
Take me out right away,
Buy me dispensers and refill packs,
I don't care if I ever get back!
For it's load, dispense, and then reload,
If there's no Pez we'll get more,
For it's two, five, ten bucks we'll spend
At the old Pez store.
Music
Lastly,
what would summer be without some cool tunes. For example,
here's one song blasting from all the Pez cars and radios
at the beach:
The
Summer of 60 Pez
(To the tune of "Summer of '69")

I got
my first dispensers,
And now I am a Pezhead, yes.
A couple months was all it took,
It was the summer of 60 Pez.
I took
a trip to Wal-Mart,
Came across the Smiley set.
Simpsons too, and then the Sourz,
There was so much Pez to get.
Oh and
when I look back now,
That Wal-Mart trip forever changed me
And, yes, the very next week
I found the Poohs and then the Disneys
Those were the first days and the best
Back in the summer of 60 Pez.
Oh,
and then I checked out eBay,
Scored the Tweenie set without a fight
Jungle Book and Pokemon, too,
And Bob the Builder was so right
Standin'
in a checkout line
Or making highest auction bidding,
I got a lot of Pez,
Man, I'll tell you I ain't kidding
Those were the first days and the best
Back in the summer of 60 Pez.
Man
I was spending cash
But it was all so worth it,
I was making a Pez stash.
I'll be a Pezhead now, forever - forever, yeah
Then I hit a Pez convention,
Found myself new Valentines.
Christmas Pez, and Jack-in-the Box,
And Mr. Bean Pez is so fine!
Standin'
in a checkout line
Or making highest auction bidding,
I got a lot of Pez,
Man, I'll tell you I ain't kidding
Those were the first days and the best
Back in the summer of 60 Pez.
