Spring Loaded: A Message from the Editor
Hello out there! This is your friendly neighborhood editor, checking in after quite a long absence since the last full issue of Pezhead Monthly. And while I can't promise a new issue right now, there are a few treats later in this note, and I plan to put together a more complete issue soon. These past several months have been a combination of personal and professional busy-ness, travel, cabin fever, and, yes, every now and then some procrastination and writers block. It's funny how one month becomes two, and then four, and then before I know it, it's been over half a year with pretty much no new updates.
But here's the thing: It's not that there isn't anything more to say about Pez. In fact, it's quite the opposite; there are always more Pez adventures to share in words and pictures, whether it's the newest release or an unexpected vintage score. There were also the recent charity auctions, where custom, one-of-a-kind dispensers of Ricky Gervais and members of One Direction sold for very high amounts. And next up, in just a matter of weeks, there will be another epic Pez convention in Connecticut, featuring another trip to the awesome Pez Visitor's Center at the US factory in Orange. While I won't be able to join Richie and company at this convention, I am sure that there will be a fun mix of veteran Pezheads and first-timers, and a Pezzerific time will be had by all. The convention was definitely a highlight of last year for me.
So here is my earnest pledge: I will try harder, and with more consistency and frequency, to translate my love of this awesome hobby into words and pictures and interviews and poetry and photoshops and song parodies and whatever else I can do to creatively express the coolness and the wonder of Pez. As far as the next issue goes, one thing that I definitely know will be included is a call for submissions to the 2013 Pez Poetry Slam. I would like to publish many Pez poems this year, and I would also like your help. My plan is to publish the Pez Poetry Slam online in the July issue, and as always to give away paper copies at Pezamania in Cleveland.
I'll leave you for
now with a recent picture of most of my collection. This does not capture
most of my carded Pez or the collector sets, or the curio in the front
room filled with vintage, giants, and other pieces, but it does show
most of my loose dispensers, as well as my humble, not-at-all wackadoo
shrine to Batman Pez. I was honored to show it off to some guests who
recently visited from out of town. Sharing my love of Pez, that's just
how I roll.
Oh, and one more thing. To accompany the above cover photo, and in celebration of the DVD/Blu-Ray release of Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchainined", I present another Pez Almost-Quote. Now, because this is a family publication, there are not too many lines from this movie that can be adequately Pezzified. But I managed to do it for Pulp Fiction, so I guess I can do it here.
Pez Almost-Quote of the Month
Still want more? Well, you're in luck, buddy. Here is a little video I put together. Enjoy!
Keep Pezzin', and see you soon.
